Here at Cookie Panache, we love to find reasons to celebrate, and what’s more joyous than autumn. Autumn is full of beautiful sights, smells and sounds. To celebrate the delicious tastes and smells of autumn, Cookie Panache has created an ode to our grandmas’ kitchen by recreating all of our childhood favorites for you guys. Treat your family to a very special treat.

Apple Cinnamon Cookie

The apple cinnamon cookie is a reminder of all things Fall, from apple picking to apple pie baking to sneaking the last apple cider doughnut after mom and dad have gone to bed. These cookies feature a soft vanilla cookie, packed with pieces of fresh apple and lightly sprinkled with cinnamon sugar.

Almond-Ginger Butter Cookie

I have many memories of eating gingerbread tea biscuits with my grandma when she watched me after school. These cookies are a reminder of all things simple and sweet. These delightfully light cookies are made with ginger and topped with sliced almonds.

Oatmeal Raisin with Walnuts

A sophisticated twist on a classic favorite. Who doesn’t love a soft, chewy warm oatmeal cookie after playing in a pile of leaves all afternoon? These delicious creations are reminders of those days before we got stuck in a cubicle from 9-5.

Mom’s Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies

Mom always knew how to bake the perfect chocolate chip cookies. They were chewy on the inside, but crunchy around the sides, and always full of large chocolate chunks that were satisfying, but never over powering. Let’s not forget how many bedtimes were postponed for a tall glass of milk and a few too many cookies.

The Sock Monkey

The other morning, Cookie Panache received a very unique order: Sock Monkey sugar cookies! Naturally, we all went crazy. Who doesn’t love a childhood classic? Then, I started wondering what makes the Sock Monkey such an American icon? As the name suggests, the Sock Monkey is a stuffed animal fashioned from a sock to look like a monkey. However, the origin of this beloved little guy is very fascinating.

Part I: The Monkey

The sock monkey’s ancestor comes from the Victorian era in Great Britain. Popular culture, influenced by the “Scramble for Africa” (history lesson: the nickname given to the dramatic growth of European colonization in Africa between 1881-1914), took interest in exotic animals, plants and crafts from Africa. The result was an increase in monkey inspired toy production. These toys were not necessarily produced from the sock, but were very popular with the kids. This new trend extended beyond Europe, it affected the United States as well.

Part II: The Sock

Meanwhile, across the ocean John Nelson, a Swedish immigrant to the United States, patented a sock sewing machine in 1869 and began produced low-cost work socks for the average American factory worker. These socks were unique. They had red heels so consumers knew they were purchasing authentic Nelson Knitting Company socks. (Can you guys guess where this is going?) Mothers across the country started using these socks to sew low cost, plush monkey toys for their children with cute, little red smiles. The outcome? Dad’s extra work sock doubled as the perfect companion for kids, especially during the Great Depression and World War I . The rest of the story is just some patent history and the development of an American icon.

Now that is what we call crafty. Cookie Panache is very proud to carry on the tradition of this particular American sweetheart. Our sugar cookie imitation may not be quite as vintage as the Sock Monkey, but they sure are as cute.

Getting Ready for Easter

Things have been busy at Cookie Panache headquarters! We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Spring after a wet and snowy NYC winter. And with Spring right around the corner, that means Easter isn’t too far away, either.

Our newest cookie collection, which consists of these Easter eggs, bunnies and baskets, are decorated in Springy pastels and featured here amongst the green grass and blooming flowers that are heading our way.

Cookie of the Week: Cherry Chocolate Chews

We shipped more of these this Valentine’s Day than any other gourmet cookie in our lineup:

Our Cherry Chocolate Chews are rich chocolate cookies made with sweet dried cherries and creamy white chocolate chips. They were a special-edition Valentine’s Day 2011 cookie as part of our Cookie Panassion package. When we baked extras, I happily ate them all up!
